RC10 MIP 4×4

In 1985 MIP introduced a 4WD conversion kit for the Associated RC10 after making such conversions for early Tamiya offroad cars before. The very first version featured a flexible cable for connecting front and rear gearboxes where newer versions used a chain or belt transmission. Four generations of MIP 4-wheel drive conversions were released overall.

  • RC10 MIP Custom 4x (1985) – cable drive
  • RC10 MIP 4×4 (1987) – chain drive #SP2
  • RC10 MIP 4×4 (1988) – belt drive #SP45 (#SP2 design but changed to belt)
  • RC10 MIP 4-10 Legend (1991) – final belt drive design

The RC10 MIP 4×4 shown below is based on an A-stamp chassis. The drivetrain uses the MIP SP1 gearbox, GD4 gear diff and a TC100 torque control. The 4-wheel drive system is built by a SP2 conversion kit but also the SP45 belt drive so is a 3rd generation conversion overall.
SP43 one-way bearings are used at the front, other hop-up parts are Tecnacraft titanium tie-rods throughout, MIP shock bodies and JG coil over. Rear axles are CRC sliding shaft universals.
Power is provided by a reverse rotation Trinity Monster motor and a Hyperdrive belt and pulley system. Wheels are beautiful machined Advance Engineering Mini-Mags wearing Yokomo Hot Laps tires.
