In 1996 Hobby Products International (HPI) based in El Toro, California introduced this RS12G 1/12th car after some 1/10th cars before. Using a graphite chassis with saddle pack battery layout and a t-bar rear suspension system this was a typical 1/12th scale design as used by many other cars also. Main difference was using HPI´s own double wishbone front suspension as introduced with the RS10G 1/10th car in 1995.
In 2002 Atsushi Hara was winning the Japanese Nationals 1/12th scale class using a RS12G, some years after being discontinued. Daisuke Yoshioka also was driving a RS12G at the same race finishing in 4th position.
